  • What do you think of my paper on Following safety procedures? Any grammar mistakes?

    Here it is:

For this project, my procedure was ‘irritant’. Enjoy :3
What if a student didn’t follow safety procedures in Science class?

If someone forgot to wear a mask in science class a
Lot of things could go wrong. Prolonged exposure to bleach fumes can cause damage to airways and lungs. Bleach fumes can also cause Pneumonia. Also, you could be coughing up blood. If they inhaled fumes from certain types of burning plastic, they could die.

They could also inhale Carbon Monoxide, a colourless, odorless tasteless gas. It is highly toxic and is the leading cause of accidental poisoning deaths in America. If someone inhales Asbestos it could cause different cancers, warts, pleural plaques, and defuse pleural thickening. Another one is Ammonia. Ammonia is a chemical that is used in Fertilizer, Refrigerants, disinfectants, fuel, and cigarettes.

Also, Battery Acid should not be inhaled. It is very easy to identify it. Battery Acid is the white stuff that comes out of batteries if they leak. If you inhale this, it can cause extreme damage to your respiratory tract. Battery acid can also cause irritation to eyes, making them read and puffy.

This one might come as a surprise to you. Helium! Helium is very fun at parties, but if inhaled too much, it could cause asphyxia. Sucking in helium replaces oxygen. If you go up to a helium tank and put your mouth over the nozzle, your lungs could explode!

Another thing you shouldn’t inhale is lead. High levels of lead can cause brain damage, growth problems, and kidney problems. It can also cause learning and behavioral problems. The most common source of lead is in paint. Lead can also come from Gasoline and plumbing products.

  • Substitute for baby powder to avoid red, inflamed skin?

I’m fat (65 extra pounds), and for a long time I’ve used baby powder in the crevasses in my skin, you know, in the groin area, under my breasts, and also under that darn hanging stomach I have. If I don’t, those areas get red and inflamed, and they only take maybe two to three days to get like that, too.

Now I’m finding out that not only is talc baby powder thought to cause ovarian cancer when you use it all the time in the genital area, as I do, but also it can be contaminated with asbestos–OMG!!!!.

And not only that, but inhaling it into the lungs is its own bad thing…and my pulmonologist told me that the inhaling into lungs thing is even worse with cornstarch.

So what do I do???? It can’t cost a mint, either. I’m usually pretty broke. Does anyone have any expertise in this matter?

    Thanks!

  • Why didn't workers at Ground Zero use proper respiratory protection in the days after 9/11?

I remember seeing video of workers with nothing more than paper facemasks working at the Ground Zero site, and wondering "Holy crap, what are those people DOING???"

I would NEVER have stepped anywhere NEAR that site without proper respiratory protection. In the days immediately following the collapse (which stirred up TONS of asbestos and ash and toxic smoke), proper protection would have involved a comprehensive self-contained breathing system such as a SCUBA tank setup.

At the LEAST, you’d want a high-grade biohazard-suitable respiratory mask. That’s just basic common sense.

However, workers did not follow these simple precautions, and now many of them have serious lung problems or cancer. Some have already died.

Why? Whose fault is this? Who set the worksite safety policies immediately following the collapse?
The thing is, nobody was actually saved from the collapsed buildings. Everyone, unfortunately, had already died. The only people "rescued" were rescuers who had later become trapped by accident.

  • CRAYOLA PLAY SAND AND SAFE SANDS FOR KIDS?

I have been looking into finding safe sands for play and have found that most play sand for the sandbox can certainly come with better quality. Silica is quartz, but the most important concern is free silica dust or crystalline silica and asbestos. Play sand with dust most likely have one or both of these, and they are a hazard to a child’s developing lungs. These sharp glass-like particles become trapped in the lung tissue causing scar tissue, slow progressing lung disease and cancer. Now workers who work on a regular basis with these elements are more likely to develop this problem, but that doesn’t mean that it is okay for our children to play with such dangerous sand particles. I have found some sands which may be safe including Sandtastik and Safe Sand. These however may have asbestos even though they are silica free, and are expensive. The MSDS for these state that the ingredient for the sand is used to make fiberglass and other such products, and that the main ingredient is feldspharic inorganic minerals. Many white sands contain asbestos and/or crystalline silica dust unless stated otherwise…very rare for them to state free of both dangers.

Well, the best I have found so far is Crayola colored play sand. I called the company n2m group who makes the sand, and have found that the quartz particles are rounded by tumbling for 45 minutes, is 100% asbestos free and free of crystalline silica dust particles, the dye is acrylic based and safe, the product does not stain though it may appear so as the tiny particles wedge into areas, is washed and goes through a dust collecting process, does not require that warning label for lung disease, and is certified with high standards and well tested. Completely non-toxic AND irritant free. There was one case where two children broke out in a rash…they ended up being allergic to sand in general. It had nothing to do with the colors or quality, and was an isolated case. For anyone looking for this good quality sand, it is only currently sold at Wal-mart and soon Toys R Us. So far this is the only sand I will use.

Most other sands I have found are Quikrete, Play Sand from Fairmount Minerals, and Beach Sand brand from Busy Beaver. I have been unsatisfied with their quality. Most are not tumbled to round the edges, or are only tumbled for 12 hrs….not near the 45 minutes used to prepare Crayola sand, which makes Crayola sand much more reassuring.

My question is, does anyone else have knowledge of equal quality sands, and what is your experience with Crayola sand?
My sandbox has a lid and I have not had any problems with cats, etc. Anyway, my question is specific and not about potential pest/sanitary problems. I have done my research. I appreciate answers specific to my question. Thank you
The Toys R Us sand is likely the Play Sand brand from Fairmount minerals. I found that it did contain a hazard based on the msds sheet. Also Crayola is the only sand so far that has significantly rounded edges. A good thing. Some people might not like the colors getting into the yard though…it is more noticeable. I’m more concerned about safety though

  • Can Honey Cure Asbestos?

Honey has been describes as one of the foods in the Quran that can cure diseases and illnesses such as cancers and skin conditions.

Once the honey is swallowed and it goes into the lungs and the alvioli with a good feast of honey it may take asbestos particles that are pinned to the lungs and gather them into the honey particles until the mucus picks up the garbage so to say and you gargle it out of the mouth.

    What do you guys think?

  • Why Indian Govt is hesistant to close Alang Ship yard, though the workers there are exposed to asbestosis?

Asbestosis is a form of lung infection(cancer kind) when workers deal with asbestos. It has been well established medically that asbestos kills.

All international Engineering constructions do not use asbestos.

Asbestos were used in ships in olden days, and now to destroy the ships, one has to remove the asbestos. Recently Ships from Europe were transported to India to Alang ship breaking yard and there was an international warning regarding asbestos in these ships.

There are even facts like a village of workers in Gujarat working in Alang yard have lost their lives to asbestosis and whole village has widows

Occasionally the news and warnings come in news papers and everyone forgets the whole issue.

Why is our Govt like this?

  • I have a question about trust funds?

    Here is the story…

My father was exposed to Asbestos back in the 60-70′s by a company that he worked.there was a lawsuit and he was awarded a settlement. The company filed for Bankruptcy in 1990.Any way my father died in 2007 from a form of Lung Cancer.

So fast foward to today .My older sister called and told me that she had checks for my sisters and I from the settlement.Im 26 my middle sister is 30 and my older sister is 33.The sister in charge of the trust is older,So altogether there are 4 of us.My question is would a judge put her in charge of a trust for adults? Or does someone else other than us have to be in charge of the checks. She also said that the settlement company left out my 33 year old sister and that we would have to split our checks with her.I dont have a problem doing this but something seems fishy

    thanks for answering

  • Is he trying to prove Global Warming w/ these questions?

Okay, so I was having a mostly friendly conversation with a friend about Obama when it went to Global Warming…go figure lol. I for one don’t believe in it. He came back with questions I think is supposed to prove his point? There below as follows:

I am glad you are concerned about the environment.

I have six questions I’d love to get your thoughts on:

1.) Do you think that second-hand smoke can cause lung cancer or other health problems for non-smokers who inhale the fumes? Do you believe the research from the Tobacco Institute is unbiased, and therefore reliable regarding second-hand smoke?… See More

2.) Do you think that the Clean Air Act, which has helped reduce air pollution significantly in major cities, was a good thing? Or do you think that air pollution is not really a health problem, but rather, an aesthetic/appearance problem primarily?

3.) Do you think that the banned pesticide DDT was unfairly banned, and should be used to improve the health of people worldwide?

4.) Do you think that if asbestos was not banned in the construction of the World Trade Center…many lives would’ve been saved because it would have improved the structural integrity of the twin towers?

5.) Would you celebrate the death of a well-known and highly regarded scientist?

6.) Would you be critical of companies/corporations that have adopted environmentally-friendly practices? For example, Microsoft has abandoned the use of PVC in its packing materials. Good or bad?

BONUS QUESTION: Should we believe everything that lobbyists who are bankrolled by corporate America tell us?

Just curious what you think of the above.

Is this trying to prove his point????

  • Is it a coincidence that global warming "skeptics" make a lot of scientifically questionable claims?

Roy Spencer is a huge proponent of Intelligent Design (he also claimed the lower atmosphere was cooling until his analysis was proven wrong). Roy Lindzen doesn’t think secondhand smoke causes lung cancer. Neither does Fred Singer, or that CFCs caused the hole in the ozone layer.

An article written by columnist Christopher Booker has recently been cited by "skeptics". Booker has previously argued that asbestos is "chemically identical to talcum powder" and "poses no measurable risk to health".

Why is it that these sources of global warming "skepticism" so frequently make such scientifically questionable (or more often, just flat-out wrong) claims?
correction – I meant *Richard* Lindzen.
